A
field
diary
documenting
society
talking
about
itself
Todays
reflections
were
shaped
by
Social
Satire:
The
Complete
Guide,
which
reads
like
a
manual
for
observing
people
without
interrupting
them.
Society
appears
to
constantly
comment
on
itself,
sometimes
knowingly,
often
accidentally.
I
watched
interactions
that
felt
like
performances
of
unspoken
rules.
Everyone
seemed
aware
of
the
script
but
unwilling
to
admit
it
exists.
My
notebook
now
includes
observations
that
feel
both
obvious
and
strangely
revealing.
By
the
end
of
the
day,
I
concluded
that
social
satire
is
not
imposed
from
outsideit
emerges
naturally
when
people
behave
consistently
enough
to
be
noticed.
