a
kettle
sitting
on
a
stove,
steadily
heating
up
with
information
that
hasnt
quite
reached
its
boiling
point
but
is
getting
there
in
stages.
This
morning,
the
water
was
calm
but
already
warm
with
early
signals
of
disruption.
By
midday,
small
bubbles
of
complication
began
forming,
rising
to
the
surface
and
disappearing
just
as
quickly.
I
watched
carefully,
waiting
for
the
whistle
that
would
indicate
clarity
or
escalation,
but
it
never
came.
The
afternoon
increased
the
heat
slightly,
enough
to
suggest
change
without
delivering
it.
In
the
evening,
I
turned
the
dial
down
in
theory,
but
the
process
continued
regardless.
Tomorrow,
I
will
check
again,
expecting
either
silence
or
a
sudden,
unavoidable
boil.
